Our founder, Camille Ysebrands, a proud surfer herself, opened the spa and salon in 1985.
Having been raised in Santa Barbara and a surfer since childhood, Camille Ysebrands has always had a passion for handmade hair and skincare products to help with the damaging effects of the sun and salt water.
In 1982, Camille became a licensed aesthetician and cosmetologist. Working as a hairstylist and make-up artist in the fashion industry for three years, she decided to opened her first salon called, “Camille Designs Hair Studio” in the college town of Isla Vista, California. Three years later she opened her second store in Isla Vista called, Camille’s Essentials & Body Shoppe where she sold natural beauty products and also offered spa services such as facials, body treatments and massages.
Camille’s clientele list kept growing and so did their need to have her open another location in downtown Santa Barbara. Responding to the wishes of her South Coast clientele, she opened her third business in 1993 by combining the salon & body shoppe concepts together to start the first “Day Spa” in Santa Barbara called, “Camille The Day Spa, Salon & Essentials.” The new Day Spa was located in the large building on State Street in Santa Barbara that previously house the old JC Penney’s. This new space offered everything from a full beauty retail store to a Bumble & Bumble Salon and French Sea Spa that had hydro-therapy, Vichy, skincare, body treatments, massages along with nail services. With plenty of room for expansion at this location, Camille noticed a interest in medical skincare treatments in a spa-type setting. As a result, she partnered-up to start Artesia Medi-Spa in 2002, which was one of the first medical-spas in California.
Eventually Camille launched her own online skincare, body and haircare website called: www.camillethedayspa.com. The website is for her clients, both near and far, to directly purchase the skin and hair care products they knew and loved with-out having to leave their homes.
Today Camille is still working doing esthetics and hair at two locations in Southern California while overseeing “The Sea Spa” at the Cabo Surf Hotel in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico.
Camille’s website, www.camillethedayspa.com, is still going strong and growing with new products every year.
